State Government Plans to Set Up Hundreds of Mee Seva Centers in Villages

Empowerment of Women through Self-Help Groups

The state government has decided to establish hundreds of Mee Seva centers in villages, accessible through government and private services. These centers will be granted to women from self-help groups under the Women Empowerment Scheme. All district collectors have been instructed to select the groups that will take the initiative in setting up these centers. The government aims to inaugurate these centers by Independence Day. Currently, there are 4,525 Mee Seva centers across the state, with around 3,000 located in urban and town areas. Out of the 12,769 village panchayats in the state, only about 1,500 have these centers.

Services and Accessibility

Villagers currently need to travel to urban centers for more than 150 government services and over 600 private activities, including applications, payments, and Aadhaar services. In this context, the government has decided to bring these centers within reach under the Women Empowerment Scheme.

Establishment of Women’s Empowerment Grameen Seva Centers

The state government will sanction women’s empowerment Grameen Seva centers (MSMEs) under the name of village organizations. A loan of Rs. 2.50 lakhs will be provided through Stree Nidhi by the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department. This loan will be used to purchase computers, printers, GPN, biometric equipment, cameras, and internet connections from reputed companies under the supervision of government officials. After the centers are operational, the organizations must repay the loan monthly.

Infrastructure and Training

Stree Nidhi, in collaboration with local village panchayats, government schools, farmer venues, Anganwadi centers, and other government buildings, will provide a space of 10 feet in length and 10 feet in width for these Mee Seva centers. Members of the organizations who have completed intermediate education will be selected as Mee Seva operators. Training on center management and services will be provided through the Mee Seva organization. Subsequently, the Mee Seva organization will enter into an understanding agreement with these women’s groups.

Transparent and Supervised Services

The centers will offer transparent services as per the government-prescribed fees. Mee Seva officials will regularly inspect these centers and supervise their operations.

Training and Inauguration Timeline

After selecting operators by the end of this month, they will receive a month-long training and necessary infrastructure will be provided. The government plans to inaugurate these centers by August 15.
